Steelcase and HNI Announce Merger — August 4
In a major industry development, HNI Corporation (parent company of HON) and Steelcase have announced plans to merge by the end of 2025. The move, set against a backdrop of ongoing workplace transformation and increased remote work, is aimed at combining complementary brand portfolios, dealer networks, and industry segments to strengthen product offerings and operations—particularly in North America.
HNI will continue to operate from its headquarters in Muscatine, Iowa, while Steelcase will maintain its headquarters in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
“Joining with HNI is a bold step that marks the next era for Steelcase, our customers, dealers, and employees,” said Sara Armbruster, President and CEO of Steelcase. “I’m excited to see this combination shape our industry.”
“This acquisition unites two respected companies with complementary strengths and represents an exciting milestone in HNI’s growth journey,” added Jeffrey Lorenger, HNI’s Chairman, President, and CEO.
The merger is expected to:
- Combine world-class research-driven product development with operational excellence.
- Accelerate delivery of advanced workplace solutions.
- Expand offerings in healthcare, education, and hospitality.
- Enhance value for customers, dealers, employees, and shareholders.
Both companies share a commitment to people, the planet, operational excellence, and integrity. While the news has been met with mixed reactions—particularly in the Midwest—management believes the partnership could signal a renewed push toward in-office work.
At Office Outfitters, we look forward to the opportunities ahead and remain committed to delivering the same outstanding service we’ve provided for over 40 years—offering our customers and partners world-class products and exceptional value.
